Department of Public Finance originated from the Department of Banking, which was founded in 1928. The department started its enrollment of students for MA programs in 1981 and PhD programs in 1984. In 1987, it became the first and the only institution to be entitled “the National Key Discipline” among the Public Finance Departments nationwide, and was conferred for the same title again in 2001 and 2007. The Department offers 6 PhD and MA programs, including Public Finance (Taxation), Public Economy, Labor Economics, Asset Valuation, Law Economics, Network Economics; 3 undergraduate programs in Public Finance, Taxation and Network Economics. Currently, 600 undergraduates, 210 graduates and 70 doctoral students are studying at the Department. The Department has a teaching and research staff of 10 professors (all are approved PhD supervisors), 11 associate professors and 15 lecturers, among whom 24 have PhD degrees, constituting 85% of the teachers under 50 years old.

The Department has achieved great accomplishments over the past 10 years, including completion of 70 scientific items on the provincial and ministerial level; publication of 55 monographs, 60 textbooks and several hundred important papers. Over 70 items have been awarded prizes on the national, provincial or ministerial level. Many research results have been adopted by the government for reference in decision making.

The Department is well equipped with teaching and researching facilities, including simulated teaching labs for finance and taxation and multimedia teaching system. The department has established an instant satellite communication system and database for global advanced finance and economics information provided by Bridge-Telerate Corporation of the United States, the 2nd largest information consulting corporation in the world. The first class facilities constitute a strong modern support for teaching and researching.
