Established in September 2001, the Center for Macroeconomic Research (CMR) of Xiamen University is a research institution with the character of comprehensive and multi-disciplinary studies. The Center was approved in February 2005 to become one of the “Top 100 Research Centers for Humanities and Social Sciences” selected and sponsored by the State Ministry of Education.

The CMR lays emphasis on the integration of economics disciplines and researchers in the University while enthusiastically attracting full-time and part-time research personnel from all over the world. At present, the Center has 23 full-time researchers in total. Over the past few years, the Center has launched a series of academic activities, undertaken some important national and provincial research projects, published some quality academic works, and thus received many distinguished academic awards. The Center has also performed outstandingly in policy consultation. Key research projects currently under way in the Center include Analysis and Prediction of China’s Macro Economy, Macroeconomic Theory and Policy and Macroeconomic Issues in the Transitional Phase.

While conducting academic researches at a high level, the Center is committed to academic exchange with other academic institutions in the world, organizing and participating in national and international academic symposiums or conferences, and inviting eminent scholars from abroad to Xiamen University for seminars and degree courses, so as to strengthen the academic exchange and cooperation between Xiamen University and the academic circles at home and abroad.

In 2004, on the basis of excellent research by the CMR and other 4 national-level key economics programs (Public Finance, Statistics, Banking and Political Economics), and an integration of research strengths between economics disciplines and the related disciplines such as Mathematics and Public Management, Xiamen University has successfully acquired the approval for the establishment of a second-phase Innovation Base in Philosophy and Social Sciences of the State “985 Project ”: the Project of Macroeconomic Analysis and Prediction. The CMR has subsequently become an important part of this national innovation base.

As one of the key research centers of the State Ministry of Education and an important part of the national innovation base in philosophy and social sciences, the Center for Macroeconomic Research of Xiamen University will make efforts to fulfill, in accordance with the relevant state standards and in a comprehensive way, such missions as system reform, scientific researches, qualified personnel cultivation, academic exchange, information and data collection and consultative services, so as to improve the research capacity of the whole Center, enhance the ability of participating in the national key policy-making, provide a new platform for research excellence of the economics disciplines of Xiamen University, and contribute to the progress of economics in China.
